Gospel Music is exactly what the name bespeaks; spreading the gospel through sound. You never have to worry about the spirit of the lyrics sending erroneous cryptic messages to you or your children. It is safe to listen to. There is always an uplifting message dressed in biblical undertones to motivate you in progression. There are many different genres of gospel music to suit your lyrical appetites. Here are a few: traditional, contemporary, hip hop, rap, rock, and gospel house music. Music can equal good or bad memories we’ve shared in life with people, places or things. Plus, give us a certain type of disposition when we listen to it. Kim McFarland is a gospel artist that always moves me with her lyrics. There is this wonderful song by Walter Hawkins & the Love Center Choir called “Goin' Up Yonder." The song is such an epicedium to me. It makes me think about funerals all the time when I hear it. It is a classic gospel song. Check out some of the lyrics. "Goin' Up Yonder" by Walter Hawkins & The Love Center Choir If you want to know Where I'm going Where I'm going, soon If anybody ask you Where I'm going Where I'm going, soon I'm goin' up yonder To be with my Lord There is this song by Fred Hammond called "No Weapon" which has the spirit of protection and victory in it. If you listen to that song you will feel like God is fighting for you. Excuse me, he is! God will do what he said he will do for you, therefore no weapon formed against you shall prosper. It may try to happen but nothing will come of it. The Clark Sisters made a gospel song called "You Brought The Sunshine" which instigates praise and worship to God at its best. If you listen to this song, I promise your spirits will be lifted so high, you will be smiling on the inside. This is also a classic gospel song. There is nothing too hard for God to work out for you. No matter what the problem, God can help you solve it. Try him today! Secular music can be very positive or negative. Unlike gospel music, some secular genres of music have to be filtered, monitored and approved for children to listen to it. All music is not for all people to listen to. Inappropriate lyrics infest the minds of our scholar babies, leaving them subject to the spirit of sexual innuendos and lust. I’m sorry but you know your 8 year old should not be in the car singing “I don’t see nothing wrong, with a little bump in grind” by R. Kelly. That is unbefitting for a child. When you hear the lyrics (Hypnotize by Notorious B.I.G), Biggie Biggie Biggie can't you see sometimes your words just hypnotize me and I just love your flashy ways, guess that's why they broke, and you're so paid. You want to dance and shake your head back and forth in a cool stance, right. I know you do; me too! When you hear the song by Destiny's Child Survivor, it inspires you not give up in life. You will make it! (What?) SURVIVOR BY DESTINY’S CHILD I'm a survivor (what?) I'm not gon' give up (what?) I'm not gon' stop (what?) I'm gon' work harder (what?) I'm a survivor (what?) I'm gonna make it (what?) I will survive (what?) Keep on survivin'(what?) Please try your best to help all young minds stay in the realm of a healthy positive mind. They will have their time to listen to music suitable to their age when they are old enough to do so. Take a bite into doing what is right by helping all of our kids develop the correct spirit of lyrics.
