I was walking on the block pushed into a mandatory stop; caught in the cords of annoyed by a stranger’s extended family member on the run. I wish I had a doggie toy or treat, for every single time someone permitted their dog to roam free, so I could throw it at their dog to distract them from running towards me. I know what you are thinking. If the dog is little or a baby what is the harm. I understand your adorable fluffy dog may be friendly and full of life however, there are some people in this world or on your avenue who may not share your insight or point of view.
I once had an individual tell me their pit bull was just a toddler as it ran towards me barking like it was going to assault me. Yes, the dog was not on a leash. It didn’t sound like a baby! The dog was not small like a puppy. It was a big dog. There appears to be an unpopular trend with some dog owners who think just because they are in proximity of their dogs they can allow them to be free without a leash. I have seen this action blow up negatively where an owner’s dog attacked a child. The focal point is to kindly and sympathetically think of others when you take your dog outside. Whether you are a few seconds away from your dog or 5 minutes away, please keep your dog on a leash, secured and tied up. This is conducive for the civilian and the dog owner.
The smaller dogs are renowned for running around loose. You see them all over the street about to get hit by a car or miles away from their owner’s home. What if you let your little pooch out and it never came back. Dogs are a part of the family. You would not be at peace if you continued to let your dog roam free without a leash and something awful happen. Most cities require dog owners to have their dogs on a leash at all times; so how about following the rules in your locality. If you do not want to walk your dog why do you have a dog? You can hire someone in your family or neighborhood to walk your dog if you don’t have time to do it. Repeat the treat. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes. If you were taking a peaceful walk minding your own business and all of a sudden a ferocious dog comes running towards you (the dog lover) how would you feel?
Do you think dogs should always be on a leash? Speak your peace!
